Tert Butyl Alcohol
Molecule Formula: C4H10O
Molecule Weight: 74
CAS No.: 75-65-0
UN No.:1120
Property:
Tert-butyl alcohol, trimethyl, also known as methanol, 2-methyl-2-propanol, etc.. Tert-butyl alcohol is a colorless crystal, there exists a small amount of water it is a colorless volatile Liquid, similar to the smell of camphor, a moisture absorption, flammability, and higher compared to other alcohol and narcotic toxicity.
Usage:
1. Tert-butyl alcohol can be dissolved in most organic solvents, such as alcohols, esters, ketones, aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons, there are a wide range of applications with one of the petrochemical products.
2. It is often substituted for n-butanol as a solvent for paints and medicines. As the intermediate of organic synthesis and the raw material of alkylation to produce tert-butyl compound, it can produce methyl methacrylate, tert-butyl phenol, tert-butylamine and so on, which can be used for the synthesis of drugs and spices. Isobutene with purity of 99.0-99.9% can be prepared by dehydration of tert-butanol. As a solvent for industrial detergents, pharmaceutical extractants, insecticides, waxes, cellulose esters, plastics and paints, as well as for the manufacture of denatured alcohol, perfumery, fruit essence, isobutene, etc.
3. Used as solvent and standard substance for chromatographic analysis.
4. Used as fuel additive (to prevent carburetor from freezing) and antiknock agent for internal combustion engine.
